Global Year Against Orofacial Pain

Letter from the IASP President

I am pleased to announce the 2013-2014 Global Year Against Orofacial Pain campaign, which will launch on Monday, October 21, 2013. Orofacial pain is a very frequent form of pain perceived in the face and/or oral cavity, caused by diseases or disorders of regional structures, by dysfunction of the nervous system, or through referral from distant sources. Monday’s launch includes a press release, a series of fact sheets examining the many aspects of orofacial pain, a poster, and other resources for you to learn more about this important form of pain. Many are available to download free of charge.

Obiettivo della nostra iniziativa, e quindi di questo Blog, è quello di creare un punto di riferimento e di discussione per tutti coloro che hanno interesse verso questo appassionante settore della nostra Disciplina.

Quindi rivolgiamo un invito, a tutti coloro che lo vorranno fare,  ad inviarci articoli, considerazioni, spunti di discussione e tutto ciò che può contribuire ad approfondimenti di carattere generale o particolare che riguardano la nostra Disciplina.

VI SYMPOSIUM OF PAIN AND VII COURSE OF INTERVENTIONISTS TECHNIQUES INFORM

On September 18th to 20th of 2013 Cuban Association for the Study and Treatment of Pain celebrated VI Symposium of Pain and VII Course of Interventionists Techniques with a concurrence average from 80 to 100 people, while previously it offered on day 16th the worshop  “Employment of the radiofrecuency in chronic pain treatment”, being the practice carried out with patient in real time and, on day 17th, we offered  a Postoperative Pain Refresher Course; both of them with 30 participants each one.

During the biggest event we offered 34 lectures where it was update in different thematics: Pharmacology of the chronic pain; Back Pain,  Interventionist Techniques  (10 conferences); Chronic Pain and Palliative Cares; and Pain in the Woman.

The lectures were dictated by 24 specialists of different disciplines, 20 of them, members of the IASP where we should highlight the participation of Elías Atencio, vice-president of the Latin American Federation of Associations of Pain (FEDELAT in Spanish)) coming from Panama, Carolina Haylock, president of the Honduran Society of Anestesiology and Reanimation, representative of the World Federation of Anesthesiology and member of the Honduran Chapter of Pain; Wilfredo Cruz, president of the Honduran Chapter of Pain; Carmelo Costa, president of the Italian Society Prometeo, No al dolore inutile and Carlos Buxó, professor of the Clinic of the Pain of the University of Puerto Rico.

These events left a favorable balance in the learning and knowledge of the treatment of the pain being also good to denote the importance of the character multidisciplinary in this task and to narrow the knots of friendship among the different members of the community of specialists dedicated to the Study and Treatment of the Pain. We offered a welcome cocktail and a farewell dinner.
